One-week Italian Renaissance Drawings
MAY 2012 – From 7th to 12th
The Renaissance Workshop concentrates on traditional drawing methods.
Through in-depth study of the works of artists such as Ghirlandaio, Michelangelo and Leonardo, participants will learn the techniques of Italian Renaissance drawings, which includes papermaking (a process dating back to 13th century Italy), surface preparation, charcoal, conté, ink and metal-point drawing. The metal-point was a popular instrument used by the Old masters before the introduction of graphite pencils in the 17th century.
The Studio provides all relevant materials and art supplies as well as access to its library of essential English publications and slide collections. The course takes place in the 14th century palazzo and is taught by Alma Ortolan who, with the help of her assistants, guarantees individual attention in an intimate and informal group setting.
Classes are in English, however, Prof. Ortolan is fluent in Italian, French, Spanish and Polish. On the successful completion of your course you will receive a Certificate in Renaissance Drawing Techniques from Ortolan Studio.
The Workshop includes
- 5 days of classes
- Two half-day guided tours of the historic centre of Serravalle and Treviso
- All meals, including wine, coffee/tea and snacks are provided

- The all-inclusive price for the one-week workshop including all art supplies, meals and tours is 1180 EUR per person.
- Accommodation is not included

- Guests are generally accommodated at Palazzo Galletti B&B Boutique Hotel or in a nearby hotel
- Those who stay at Palazzo Galletti B&B have a 10 % discount on their final bill
