One-week Fresco Painting workshop

The Fresco Painting workshop concentrates on traditional fresco painting technique, combining a creative learning experience while taking advantage of the rich artistic heritage and stunning landscape that the Veneto Region has to offer. With its multitudes of fresco adorned historical buildings, it is the perfect place in which to learn and to draw inspiration from.

The workshop offers full-day activities in an intensive course devoted to the techniques, materials, history and the theory of fresco painting and an introduction to conservation. Activities include a series of lectures followed by a demonstration and hands-on. You’ll have the opportunity to learn the technique of  the architectural decoration of the Italian Renaissanceoman – from the traditional preparatory drawings, mortar mixing and application, and the use of natural pigments to painting on a wet wall and/or a portable support, which you may keep at the end of the course.

The Studio provides all relevant materials and art supplies as well as access to its library of essential English publications and slide collections. The course takes place in the 14th century palazzo and is taught by Alma Ortolan who, with the help of her assistants, guarantees individual attention in an intimate and informal group setting.

Classes are in English, however, Prof. Ortolan is fluent in Italian, French, Spanish and Polish. On the successful completion of your course you will receive a certificate in fresco painting techniques from Ortolan Studio.
