The Studio

Ortolan Studio is situated in the historical centre of Serravalle (today known as Vittorio Veneto) at the foot of the Dolomites, just 30 miles north of Venice.

It is a medieval town built around a castle belonging to the Da Camino family, as first recorded in 1175. As part of the Republic of Venice, Serravalle grew to be a wealthy and famous capital in this large and rich territory through trade with Germany and Venice in the late Middle Ages. In the Renaissance period many well-known families built palaces here.

Ortolan Studio is housed in the four-storey Palazzo Galletti. The studio space is located on the main floor. On the second floor, is a spacious living area accompanied by a private terraced garden where outdoor workshops are also held. On the other floors are located guest rooms of the Palazzo Galletti B&B Boutique Hotel.

The palazzo provides the perfect environment to reside. It is a place where people from all over the world can meet, united by a passion for the arts, culture and life.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was discovered beneath layers of lime on the palazzo’s internal walls during restoration work. This coat of arms represents the family Galletti. “Galletti” is the Italian word for little roosters.

In the late 15th century, Cristoforo Galletti  became patron of the fresco painting decorations in the neighboring Galletti Chapel of San Giovanni Church.
